Deacon, the Rev. Jonathan Pinkney – Jonathan came to us here at St. Helen’s nearly two years ago at the end of October 2017. He came as a student at VST. During this time, Jonathan has gone through the selection and vetting process and was accepted as an ordinand in the diocese. Finally, Jonathan was ordered to the diaconate last June and from that time he has been assigned to St. Helen’s as an honourary deacon. We are happy to announce that as of September 1st Jonathan is no longer ‘honourary’ but is appointed to St. Helen’s by Archbishop Melissa as the parish deacon. The appointment is expected to last until the end of next May or June. This means that he will now be remunerated for the work he does. The diocese is covering most of the costs of employment. The parish share is to cover the employer’s portion of benefits. Although Jonathan is still completing a number of courses, through to next April, he will be here most Sundays and will be working in the parish with a variety of duties and responsibilities one other day during the week; usually on a Wednesday. As well as learning (OJT) how to administer a parish and care for its people, Jonathan will be working in the areas of outreach, helping to organize youth and children’s work, be an active part of parish council as well as have regular liturgical duties of a deacon. Jonathan, we welcome you and look forward to you taking your place amongst us as we minister together.
