Pie Sale - Sunday Oct. 4th Fresh, homemade pies for thanksgiving. You know you already have enough to do to prepare for Thanksgiving, so let us help! We are selling these delicious pies at $10 each today, during coffee time. They are on a first come, first serve basis. When they’re gone, they’re gone! Choose from apple, pumpkin or berry.

Thank You from Steve The ride went well yesterday and I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me as a member of the PWRDF Team in Vancouver.  There were 12 or 13 of us on the team and there were 12 teams across the country.  My fundraising was just shy of $1000 which at time of printing this was one of the highest ‘gathered’ for PWRDF here in the Vancouver area.  If you think you missed your chance to sponsor me, you can still do so.  I would be very happy to receive any other sponsors.  Just let me know.  For those of you who sponsored me, I will be collecting today if possible.

Food Bank Oct. 16th is World Food Day. Most of you will know that we have a food box in the church and accept donations of food for our community food bank on any Sunday. Our parishioners at St. Helen’s have always given generously. We ask that you be particularly generous Thanksgiving Sunday, Oct. 11th and the next Sunday, Oct 18th. We will take all that has been given to our Food Bank right after the 18th. If you would prefer to give cash/check please put them in the offering plate clearly marked ‘Food Bank’. At this time the Food Bank is short of canned meats, fish, peanut butter & cereals. We remember our blessings as we give to others.

Sunday School – Our Sunday School is well underway under the leadership of Anoma Thilakeratne and Roshi Anthonisz.  We would like more help from week to week.  If you think you would like to find out more about helping with this ministry, please speak with our priest, Steve, or with Anoma or Roshi.  As with many ministries working with children and other vulnerable people a criminal records check must be undertaken.

Our Website and Facebook Page – Please do visit our webpage at www.sthelensurrey.ca which has been substantially updated with information of all kinds.  Please also visit and ‘Like’ our Facebook page.  When you like the page, you will get the new posts on your own Facebook page when it is updated.  Please do make sure you ‘Like’ the page and not just the post.  We now have 91 likes to the page and it would be great to get 100 likes.  When there are special events to take place please share the post on your page. By doing so you are helping to get the information out there about our event with the likelihood that more people will be looking to attend.

Yard Sale/Flea Market We are having another Yard Sale on Saturday, Oct 17th.  We are accepting donations for this event every Monday from 6-7 pm & also Sundays after church. Please bring them to the bottom hall. As well as the usual popular items we will also be accepting gently used clothes. Your job is to tell your families, friends & neighbours that you would love to have anything that they no longer want or need! We will also need help on the Saturday to staff tables, help with the food kiosk, fetch & carry & any jobs needed. If you can help in any way please speak to Rohan or contact him by: 778-395-1094, anthoniszvrl@yahoo.com We are hoping to have a sale every couple of months as these Flea Markets have proven to be very good fundraisers. Many thanks to you all!

Prayer Circle - If you or someone you know is in need of prayer, please contact Judy Nicholson after the service or phone the Church Office, 604-581-4800.  If you know of anyone from the parish who is in the hospital or about to go into the hospital, please contact the parish office and let Steve know.

Coffee and Fellowship Hour – Every Sunday we have our fellowship time and we have a rota of people who get it all ready for us to enjoy following the Eucharist.  Would you like to help out one Sunday a month or periodically?  If so, please speak with Jos Laskey until Marion, who schedules our rota, returns from holidays. At the moment we are particularly looking for one or two people to help on the first Sunday of the month.

Order of the Diocese of New Westminster – This award is given by the diocese based on nominations from parishes to people who have given a great deal of themselves in every way to the life of their parish and to the diocese.  St. Helen’s nominated Les Foulds this year and his nomination was .  The award will be given at a diocesan service to be held at the Massey Theatre in New Westminster on Sunday, November 1st at 7pm.  Seating is limited and so attendance to this service is by invitation only.  But we want to say congratulations to Les.  Well done good and faithful servant!

Kitchen in the Lower Hall – After a lot of flooding in the lower hall last April, there was a great deal of work that had to be done to fix up the kitchen.  We were given cupboards and appliances by Shannon Herd and for the last few months Les Foulds has been doing the necessary work to refurbish the kitchen including replacing the flooring, installing the cupboards and appliances etc. It is now in its finishing stages.  If you would like to see the work done, please do go and have a gander after the service today.  If you would like to make a donation toward the work that has been done, please speak with our treasurer, Bill Nicholson.

First Aid Course – A one day Emergency First Aid Course is to take place here at St. Helen’s on Saturday, Oct 31st.  run by one of our former parishioners, Amelia Foster. The cost is $70 per person. The cost will go down slightly with more people signing up.  If you would like to register for this, please speak with Kelly Foulds or email at kdawn_559@hotmail.com
