Notices for the Week: January 29th – Feb 5th
Music at St. Helen’s
We have moved into a time of having an interim musician. It is planned that Mark Whitmore will be with us as the interim organist/pianist during this period. For everyone’s information, after our Annual Vestry Meeting (February 26th), a committee will be struck for the purpose of gathering information about our needs, wants, and desires regarding the restructuring of our music ministry in the parish. From this, a job description will be put together to detail the work and ministry expected for that person to undertake. We will also develop a list of skills and requirements we would want a new musician to have (Person Specification). This committee will report to the church council once they have completed their work. Following this and with the agreement of the Church Council, the position will be ready to be advertised on the Diocesan website and other appropriate places. Once the date to receive applications has passed, interviews will be conducted with qualified musicians and it is hoped that an appointment will be made. We might expect a new organist/musician to be in place by some time in the summer; perhaps sooner.
2017 Church Calendars: There are still some left and will be available during coffee time for a donation of any amount. This would be gratefully received.
Bottle Drive Today , Jan 29th: Kelly & Les will be delivering all our deposit recyclables to the recycling depot. They need to be left outside the lower hall door before or immediately after the service.
Memorial Flowers Each week flowers are placed at the altar; usually in memory of someone who has died. (But they can also be place in thanksgiving or for an anniversary too!) At fellowship time following the service a sign-up sheet will be going around. If you would like to donate toward the flowers as a memorial or a thanksgiving, please fill in your name on the appropriate Sunday. We normally spend $50 each week on the flowers and ask your donation be made accordingly or as you are able. No one should feel they cannot have their loved ones memorialized due to cost. Please place your flower donation in the offering plate either on the Sunday before or on the Sunday itself and mark your cheque or envelope ‘flowers’. Cheques should be made out to St. Helen’s
World Day of Prayer is on Friday March 3rd this year and St. Helen's is hosting for our area. The service will be at 1:00 pm and the Philippines is the focus. This is not just a women's service and we encourage everyone to attend. A reception will follow in the hall.
Pancake Supper – Tuesday, February 28th – Plan now to be at our annual supper. This is for everyone and the price is by simple donation. We usually have a great crowd and a lot of fun. Come and be a part of Shrove Tuesday; Mardi Gras in St. Helen’s style
March Lunch Bunch – This gathering will take place at the ABC Country Restaurant on the Fraser Highway. It is a ‘redo’ of the Christmas dinner postponed due to bad weather. The cost is $18. If you would like to go, please speak with Joan Hnedish.
